RAW STRAWBERRY HONEY (Arbutus Unedo)
This honey is produced from the beautiful evergreen shrub of the Arbutus or Strawberry Tree (Arbutus Unedo). Yes, bees visit strawberry flowers to collect pollen and or nectar. Although the late blossoming is often accompanied by cold weather which makes it difficult for the bees to collect nectar; between 6 and 15 bee visits are needed to pollinate a strawberry fruit fully, undoubtedly making this special honey even more difficult to find. The honey has a bitter/sweet complex multi layered taste. The closest way to describe it might be a bitter caramel. Raw Arbutus honey contains Homogentisic acid; a powerful phenolic acid and exceptional antioxidant and antibacterial qualities. Loved by gourmets and honey connoisseurs worldwide, pair with cheese, over ice cream or white chocolate mousse.
